About Course
This course introduces students to the history of the Indian National Movement from the early stages of European colonization to the beginning of the Gandhian era. It critically examines the role of European trading companies in establishing colonial rule, the economic and social impact of British policies, and the resistance movements that shaped India’s path to independence.
Students will study key developments including the Revolt of 1857, land settlement policies, the rise of social reform and anti-caste movements, and the formation of the Indian National Congress. The course also covers the early phases of nationalism, from moderate politics to militant nationalism, the Partition of Bengal, and the impact of World War I on India’s freedom struggle.
By the end of this course, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the inner dynamics of India’s anti-colonial movement, the role of reformers and leaders, and the foundation that shaped modern India as a nation.
